As a result of my new experience researching for Profugo’s Twitter posts, I now realize that I have never really had to focus on the dynamic changes occurring in the world. Living in the United States, which is a large and mostly English speaking country, makes it easy to not notice the amazing changes occurring in the world. In my short time of doing research for Profugo, especially researching news in India, I have had to face how little thought I usually give to India. It was a surprising realization because India is a country with such a vast human population and I never really thought about this country. However, now I know that India is a fascinating country that is unique and on the precipice of modernity and change. I have had the privilege to learn more about India during my internship while researching many subjects. However, there has been a topic that has been of particular interest to me during my research.

Researching Indian women has been my favorite experience working for Profugo thus far. I particularly enjoyed reading about women’s rights and struggles in India because it is such an exciting time for women in India. Women advocates in India reflect the zeal of the suffragettes in the 20th century. It is awesome to realize that one can get involved with modern day social, human, and civil rights. I have always been deeply passionate about the changes that the suffragettes were able to make in my country. Therefore, I have consistently tried to respect the legacy they have left and not take their sacrifices for granted. Now I can see that the best way to respect their legacy is to help women globally leave the same legacy for their granddaughters and grandsons. Profugo’s actions help people to realize that there are ways one person can make a difference in the world.

Naomi LevantResearching for Profugo has helped me realize that fighting for human rights is not merely a subject in a history book. Rather, fighting for human rights is a monumental task for the 21st century to address.

In reality, the world’s needs are practically endless, but so are the ways that one person can contribute to the progress of humanity through kindness. An important lesson that I learned from this experience is that no one has an excuse for apathy because the world’s great resources provide a means for everyone to make a difference in the world.

I’m looking forward to the rest of my time interacting with you all. Thanks for following Profugo!
