2026 Urgent Appeal

We urgently need your help!

Dear Friends,

We started Profugo in 2007, by building relationships with and supporting approximately 40 farmer families. Now in 2026, we serve approximately 4,000 families! That’s a 10,000% growth in about 19 years. We are so grateful to have been part of this growth. The most astounding part of the last 19 years is that we have grown without any significant grants or endowments, but rather the resources of a small group of people.

Our first Center of Development (CoD) in Wayanad, India, offers approximately 70 products and services to the community of farmers. Services are delivered in part through one of the very few Women Owned Farmer Producer Companies in India. Starting last year, we have been involved in a significant push towards the sustainability of the Waynad CoD. The main component of this strategy is the launch of a dairy farm that houses Chickens, Goats, Water Buffalo and Cows. Our Microfinance Program is also growing very quickly, as community members give up their loans from other sources and borrow from Profugo instead. Profugo’s Microfinance Program is setup in such a way that community members can be loan free sooner than other programs. Profugo does this by offering low interest loans for a short duration (12 months or less).

In the last two months, we have experienced an explosion in demand for loans. While there are many positives with this growth, it has caused a significant and unexpected cash crunch. In addition to this, the government grant program that is subsiding the Dairy Farm is being expedited and the government wants us to complete implementation by next month! These two factors have resulted in a very urgent and critical shortage of funds. We are asking that you step in and come alongside us and the farmer families of Wayanad.

Funds will help us complete purchasing animals for the farm and lend to families who are looking to us to help with loans that will be use to pay for things like tuition for their students.

Please consider helping!

There are two ways you can help us fund the critical $20,000 funding gap.

  1. Enter the raffle (https://profugofriends.betterworld.org/giveaways/worldcup2026)! We have two tickets to the July 4th World Cup game in Philadelphia! What a celebration that will be!
  2. Step in with a loan until December, 2026. Any amount will be helpful! Please keep in mind that we will only be able to return the loan in Indian Rupees and to a bank account in India.

Thank you for your consideration!

if you have any questions and would like to know more about the programs or have questions about the financials, please contact Ashwin Koleth (ashwin.koleth[at]profugo[dot]org.

Our goals for 2027 include preparing to launch our second Center of Development (CoD) in Tamil Nadu (India) and a technology platform that will accelerate the implementation of other CoDs.
